When ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ first released back in 2005, it was remembered for its action sequences, the alluring plot, and all the other things a movie about assassins locked in marriage and kill orders brings about. Oh, and it gave birth to Brangelina (RIP).
With the latest announcement from Amazon Studios that they would be remaking the film into a TV series, there also came the tantalizing question: who will be the next Hollywood power couple?
Jokes aside, fans of the original film can celebrate Amazon’s announcement as it’ll definitely be entertaining. It’s a show about assassins and romance; try thinking up a better duo! Without further ado, let’s take a look at the two stars set to star in the new show: ‘Community’ actor Donald Glover and ‘Fleabag’ star Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Amazon Studios is delighted to be working with this formidable creative duo
“Talk about the dream team!” Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said. “Donald and Phoebe are two of the most talented creators and performers in the world.”
“It’s truly a dream for us, as it will be for our global audience, to have these two forces of nature collaborating as a powerhouse creative team.”
This isn’t the first time Glover and Waller-Bridge have worked together. They collaborated in 2018 for ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ as Lando Calrissian and droid L3-37.
What have the two stars worked on?
Phoebe Waller-Bridge is most notable for her work in ‘Fleabag’ as its creator, head writer and star. She was also the showrunner, headwriter and executive producer for the first series of ‘Killing Eve’. Both shows were met with critical acclaim and have gone on to be named in the 100 greatest television series of the 21st century (‘Fleabag’ ranked at 8th, ‘Killing Eve’ ranked at 30th).
Her most recent work also saw her contribute to the script of Daniel Craig’s last outing as James Bond in ‘No Time to Die’, which is set to release later this year barring any other delays.
Donald Glover, also known by his stage name Childish Gambino, is a man of many talents. He first found success after being hired by Tina Fey to write for the NBC sitcom ‘30 Rock’. Glover rose to further fame for portraying a college student in the extremely popular ‘Community’. Since 2016, Glover has starred in FX’s ‘Atlanta’, which he created and occasionally directs.
On top of all that, he’s freakin’ Childish Gambino.
What a duo. Nothing is for certain, but I’d bet money that Amazon’s ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ is going to be one hell of a show.
